Program

Located in New Britain with eight satellite offices, HRA operates a scattered site housing program for people with AIDS. The agency also operates the Wellness Resource Center, a community center for individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Mission

Human Resources Agency’s mission is: “to design and operate programs for the poor; mobilize resources for their programs; advocate the needs of the poor among public and private agencies; involve recipients in the planning and operation of programs that benefit them; and ensure that programs are responsive to those they serve.”

Background

Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc. was founded in 1964 to help families escape the cycle of poverty. The agency currently serves 10,000 New Britain residents annually at incomes from poverty level to middle income. The Supportive Housing Program began in 1997 with offices located at the Wellness Resource Center.

Population Served

The scattered site program serves individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in New Britain. The program is designed for people who are relatively independent and may require assistance accessing needed support services. Priority status is assigned to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Clients may be terminated from the program for noncompliance with program guidelines.

Services Provided

The scattered site housing program administers thirty-two rental subsidies and provides case management for the recipients. Supportive services are provided to increase stability, skill levels and self-determination. Services at the Wellness Resource Center include: support groups, nutritional counseling, mental health services, substance abuse counseling, women’s groups, and more.
