Program
Located in Bridgeport, the Helping Hand Center operates a ten bed group residence and a ten unit scattered site housing program.

Mission
It is the mission of the Helping Hand Center, Inc. to conduct a residential rehabilitation center for male drug abusers; to provide drug abuse prevention in the community; to conduct counseling and referral services for women on an out-patient basis; and to conduct the AIDS Prevention Initiative. This initiative is a program of drug abuse prevention, crisis intervention, case management, and education. The Helping Hand Center also provides residential HIV/drug abuse prevention for persons with AIDS.

Background
Helping Hand Center, Inc. has been serving persons living with HIV/AIDS since 1985. The agency was founded in 1969.

Population Served
The group residence serves Spanish-speaking individuals living with HIV/AIDS with a history of substance abuse, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The program is designed specifically to meet the needs of those who speak Spanish. The group residence provides long-term housing based on an individual’s specific health needs and his/her ability to move into a more permanent arrangement. The scattered site program serves individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families, who are relatively independent, require or request some supportive services, and need help accessing services.
