Located in Bridgeport, Catholic Charities’ scattered site housing program provides housing subsidies to individuals and families in the Greater Bridgeport area.
Mission
Recognizing the universal right to live with dignity, respect and self-esteem, the scattered site housing program of Catholic Charities combines case management and housing subsidies for people living with AIDS whose health has been compromised by inappropriate living conditions. Program participants enter into an empowering partnership that encourages the affirmation of life and the preservation of the self-defined family unit.
Background
The scattered site housing program has been serving individuals living with HIV/AIDS since 1990. Catholic Charities, a comprehensive social service agency, was founded in 1916.
Population Served
The scattered site housing program provides services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families. At least one household member must be HIV+ or diagnosed with AIDS. The total household income must be at 250% or below the federal poverty level. There must be a desire and ability to live independently and a willingness of all household members to cooperate with case managers in: a) identifying issues and needs; b) planning ways to address them; c) engaging in appropriate available community resources. No one who is actively using drugs will be accepted into the scattered site housing program.
Services Provided
The scattered site housing program provides subsidized housing and case management to individuals and families who are living with HIV/AIDS. Program participants are referred to a variety of service providers in the Greater Bridgeport area who offer support groups, vocational and employment services, substance abuse/mental health services, and medical services. Residents also have access to mental health and psychiatric services through Catholic Charities.
