Offices are located in New London and Norwich, the Alliance for Living operates a 42 unit scattered site housing program and a five unit scattered site supportive housing program for homeless individuals and families throughout New London County. The agency provides comprehensive non-medical services.
Mission
The Alliance for Living is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people affected by HIV/AIDS in New London County.
Background
The Alliance for Living and its predecessor organizations have been serving persons living with HIV/AIDS since 1986. As the only ASO in New London County the Alliance for Living is uniquely positioned to have as its primary focus the people of New London County impacted by HIV/AIDS. With this comes the responsibility not only to provide supportive services but also to develop an approach that is both short and long term and enables people impacted by the disease to have a say in how they will be served.
Population Served
The Alliance for Living serves individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families, who are relatively independent, need some supportive services and need help obtaining services. The agency serves only New London County residents.
Services Provided
The Alliance for Living provides comprehensive one-stop non-medical services to those living in the scattered site program, as well as other HIV/AIDS infected individuals who do not fit the criteria for scattered site housing. Services include Case Management, Drop in Center, Essentials of Life - a food and household goods program, Support groups and Individual Counseling, Educational Workshops, Holistic Therapies, Salon, Gardening, Social/Recreational Activities, Children’s Room, PC Room, Library, Art Therapy Room, A full service kitchen that provides weekly meals and a fitness center with weekly classes. The Alliance staff seek to empower individuals to enhance their quality of life. The Alliance has on staff a Medication Adherence Nurse to assist members who are challenged in maintaining their medication regimen.
